Tanshanicka Helem.jpg

Tanshanicka Helem, RN, MSN, CCRN

Health Consultant

Tanshanicka is nurse educator with extensive experience and management skills. She began her career in healthcare by being accepted into one of the first Critical Care Internship Programs for new graduates in the Washington Metropolitan Area.  Since that time, she has logged 23 years of experience in various Intensive Care Units in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

For many years, Tanshanicka observed the disorganization of orientating new to practice graduates into the hospital. Being that she was a new graduate herself, this inspired her to take on the role as preceptor. In order to feel better equipped to address the needs of new graduate development, she completed her Master’s degree in Nursing Education. Tanshanicka believes in innovation and witnessed how effective health care simulation has contributed to nursing. She obtained her certificate in Health Care Modeling and Simulation from the Naval Postal Academy.

Tanshanicka went on to serve for 8 years in education with the role of Director of Nursing Education. She still carried a passion for having direct contact with patients and pondered on how she could combine her skills set of educator and critical care nursing. This inspired her to enroll into a dual Family Nurse Practitioner with a Doctorate in Nursing practice program. During this experience she became engrossed in women’s health and the underserved and found that this was a passion she wanted to pursue. Tanshanicka looks forward to contributing to “Project Give Hope, Inc.” by raising awareness among Advanced Practical Nurses about the alternative methods that can be used to treat cervical cancer.

Tanshanicka views nursing as an art and a science that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and support to promote and restore health for individuals, families and communities. As a teacher and future provider she believes effective communication is essential to the practice of nursing. It is imperative that we practice independently and collaboratively with other disciplines to facilitate optimal well being in the community.
